Founded in 1905 by
Ali Sami Yen and a group of Galatasaray High School students. Its name derives
from Galata Palace in Istanbul. Their
color was red and White at first than hanged into yellow and red. Nickname of
the Galatasaray football club is “Cim Bom”.
As member of
Turkish Super League, in modern times they play their matches in "Türk Telekom
Arena". Since its foundation Galatasaray
won 19 league titles. In addition in international games they won UEFA Cup in
the season 1999-2000 by winning Arsenal on penalties and Super Cub by eliminating Real Madrid. Also
played quarter final in the season 2000-2001 and 2012-2013 in Champions League.
Galatasaray is the
first Turkish football club who won an international title. With the efforts the German manager Jupp Derwall Galatasaray
begin to develop both in domestic and international games. His efforts both for
Turkish football and Galatasaray can not be forgotten.
The team’s current
ranking in UEFA coefficient is 35th. It seems to inrease after playing the
remaining games in the Champions League.
