Bayern München - History and Evolution

Author: Benjamin

Bayern Munich is a German professional football (soccer) club located in Munich, Bavaria. It is commonly known as FC Bayern München, and was founded in 1900. In time, it has become the most famous and successful football club in Germany. FC Bayern Munich was founded by members of the Munich gymnastics club (MTV 1879). There were eleven members of the football division who left the congregation in order to build their own club.

A few months later, after the club was founded, Bayern managed to obtain many victories in local confrontations, soon becoming a winner of the South German Championship. Later, the club won its first national title in 1932 by beating Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Nazi policy brought a period of stagnation for Bayern. The president and the coach, both of whom were Jewish, left the country. There were many others in the club who were purged. But this didn't stop Bayern from its path to progress and development.

After the war, Bayern became a member of the Oberliga Süd, the conference of the first German division, which was divided in five regional leagues at that time. Bayern Munchen played in the Oberliga Süd ("South") and became a winner of the German Cup for the first time in 1957. In 1963 was established a West German national league, called the Bundesliga, and Bayern was promoted into the league for the 1965–66 season.

At the end of the 1960s, Bayern's team was formed from three of the best German footballers of all time: Sepp Maier who was the goalkeeper, followed by Gerd Müller, and Franz Beckenbauer. Müller was the top goalscorer of the Bundesliga seven seasons in a row and remained the league's all-time best goalscorer. Being backed by other top German players, Bayern gathered trophies at an advanced level. It won many titles and cups, soon becoming one of the leading clubs in Germany.

Thus, the club had its period of greatest successes in the middle of the 1970s, when it won the European Cup three times in a row (1974–76).

Bayern's success in the 1960s and '70s propelled the club to the forefront of German football. The club has won the Bundesliga many times, also winning the DFB Cup 16 times, and the League Cup. Also, it won one of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Cup (1996) and five of the Champions League titles. In 2013 Bayern won the fifth Champions League title.

The Bayern Munchen club is one that passed trough the difficulties with honor in dignity. It hasthe best football  teams and deserve all the respect.
